AroUND feature story: what do you love about UND?

Maggie O'Leary is this year's recipient of the Dru Sjodin Memorial Scholarship.
"There's so much esteem for the scholarship and so much weight behind it. Exiting my undergrad degree with a loan debt that will be more than my annual salary is daunting. The award is incredible; it really lifts a huge burden off you," said O'Leary, a junior majoring in English with minors in Political Science and Women and Gender Studies.

You can benefit students like Maggie by giving a planned gift to the University of North Dakota through the UND Alumni Association & Foundation.

If you have questions or to learn more about how planned giving can benefit the University of North Dakota, click here, email giftplanning@undfoundation.org, or call the UND Foundation at 1.800.543.8764.

Annual Meeting
The boards of directors of the UND Alumni Association and the UND Foundation have agreed to a plan to merge the two organizations.

Despite operating as one organization for many years, the two have been separate legal entities. The plan still has to be approved at the annual meeting of the organization on June 13, which also marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Alumni Association.

What follows is the legal notice of the annual meeting:

The UND Alumni Association & Foundation cordially invites you to attend the UND Alumni Association &  Foundation Annual Meeting and celebrate its 125th anniversary.

Friday, June 13, 2014
11:00 Meeting
11:30 Light Lunch

Gorecki Alumni Center
3501 University Ave
Grand Forks, N.D.

The agenda will include:

  • Review and approval of a plan to merge the UND Alumni Association and the UND Foundation.
      • The Alumni Association and the Foundation currently operate as two separate legal organizations, but have integrated more of their governance functions and operations over time. The organizations share a vision and mission to keep alumni and friends of UND engaged and connected to their alma mater.
      • Merging the two organizations will provide synergies and efficiencies, and will more accurately reflect the close working relationship of the two organizations.
      • The merger was approved by the boards of directors of both organizations in May, with a vote of the Alumni Association membership required to finalize the approval.
  • A report on the past year along with the election of new directors. All alumni* are voting members of the Association.

*Proxies are not permitted

Please RSVP to Brooke Conlin.

The O’Keefe trust
Last month, Tim O'Keefe retired after 11 years as Executive Vice President & CEO of the UND Alumni Association & Foundation. Before he left, he knew one thing for certain: he, along with his wife, Becky, wanted to leave a lasting legacy with the University of North Dakota. One way the O'Keefes did that was to establish a charitable trust, which is providing them with income, tax benefits, and best of all, fulfillment of their philanthropic intentions to UND.

Crews begin work on High Performance Center

Construction crews have begun work on the University of North Dakota High Performance Center over the last few weeks, preparing the footings for the building that will be a game-changer for UND athletics. Early work has focused on the ground, digging down 10 feet to prepare for the 100-yard artificial turf and 8-lane, 300-meter track. In the coming weeks, steel framing and cranes will move into the area to construct the building.

You can watch a video about the early construction here.

Donate to phase two of the project, which will house academic, sports medicine and additional areas, by giving online or contacting Steve Brekke at steveb@undfoundation.org or 701.777.6426.
