Should all private gifts to UND be directed to the University of North Dakota Foundation?

Yes, the University of North Dakota acknowledges the UND Foundation as the preferred channel for private contributions to the University.

How will I know my gift is supporting what I want it to?

When you give through the UND Foundation for the benefit of the University, you can tell us exactly how you'd like your gift to be used. It can be as general as "College of Arts & Sciences" or even more specific, designating a specific program like communications, for example, or supporting an endowed fund within the UND Foundation.

Do you release my name or details about my gift(s) to others?

We appreciate the honor of recognizing all of our donors and publicly thank them for their support to UND. Our Eternal Flame Society is established for that reason. However, you may choose to remain anonymous. Because the UND Foundation is a private foundation, gifts are not subject to North Dakota's open records laws.

What makes endowed giving different from annual giving?

Simply put, annual giving helps support continual operations, while endowed giving creates building blocks for long-term growth. Many donors who establish endowments also give annual gifts. Both gift types are critical to the University's success.

Are there tax considerations when giving to the UND Foundation?

Donors do not make gifts to the UND Foundation for tax reasons alone. However, the tax implications of a gift should be considered carefully. It is wise to thoughtfully plan your charitable giving in order to best use available tax benefits. This may enable you to provide an even greater gift to benefit the University than would otherwise be possible.

What are the tax benefits of a gift to the UND Foundation?

Generally, when you make a gift to a non-profit organization like the UND Foundation, you may receive a charitable deduction, especifally if you file an itemized income tax return. Of course, each donor's circumstances will vary. And tax advantages also vary depending on the gift method you use. We encourage you to review all gifitng opportunites and your own particular circumstances with a trusted lawyer, accountant or other professional advisor.
